Upcoming Interview idea

I have decided to take lead from other Blogs and begin an interview section to Mishaps and Adventures. The idea would be to interview other designers, Art Directors, Publishers and Artist. My hope is to start with delving into the processes of making a book and what publishers are looking for in hopes of making it a teaching tool for others ...ambitious I know.

So class now is the time if you have any questions you might like to ask about anything publishing related. I will take them very seriously an use them as possible questions in these interviews. I figure this will help me ask questions that you want answers to.

Possible interviews include Howard Reeves ( Publisher of Abrams Books for Young Readers and Amulet Books), David McPhail (Illustrator), Jeff Kinney (Author and Illustrator of Diary of a Wimpy Kid), Kelly Murphy (Illustrator), and Neil Swaab ( Designer and author of Rehabilitating Mr. Wiggles) to name a few..

And since I like to include an image everytime I post, here is a drawing I did of a couple of birds.

Would love to read those. We're looking forward to chatting with you after the summer YA interviews are over, too.

Oooh, I have so many questions, I wouldn't know where to begin. I'd like to read more advice for illustrators who also write and wish to promote themselves as an illustrator/author combo, you know, 'the package.'

I hear it's so much harder and takes longer to become published that way, but surely it happens to first-timers not jsut those who have already made a name for themselves ... it must! Please say it does.

Great blog, wonderful ideas and work, too. I love the fact you are sharing your experiences to help others... that stuff is priceless and please know it is very much appreciated.

I have recently found your blog and would welcome some great tips. I have been licensing my artwork for about 7 years now on all kinds of products, but I am trying to crossover to the children's book market.

I have someone at Harper's who will look at my stuff but if they are not interested its hard to shop around when most companies will not take unsolicited manuscripts. I have been sending in art to try and get in that way. I prefer not to get an agent since I know in Licensing they take a big chunk and I would rather try and get the client myself. So any tips would be helpful in getting my book ideas seen!

By the way what part of Brookln do you live in? I used to live in Park Slope right near the Hagen Das
